Buckets of Explanation
“When we deal with complex things - a subject, phenomenon, or even an organisation - we break things down into categories. What Saposky calls ‘Buckets of Explanation’. This is good for things like facts, but it hinders our ability to think about those facts. The buckets are arbitrary. The more you think across a range of subjects, the more you begin to see the connections. I like to say ‘everything is everything else’. Ultimately, it’s all the same. If you want to truly understand something, you have to spend the time looking at the connections, not just the bucket.”
